Italian Wine Scholar Unit 2: Victoria (Hybrid Online Course)

The Italian Wine Scholar is offered in conjunction with the Wine Scholar Guild and due to the depth and complexity of Italian wines, the program has been split into two courses: Unit 1 and Unit 2. This course is only Unit 2, which covers Central and Southern Italy.  Unit 1 covers Northern Italy.  Please note, that the units can be taken in any order.

We are very excited to get us back on track with Italian Wine Scholar! Here are all the details about new dates. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions as we gear up again for class.

Instructor: Ann Brydle, Sharon McLean

Schedule:

  • Tues Jul 21 webinar: Foundation, Umbria, Abruzzo, Marche

  • Thurs Jul 23 webinar: Toscana

  • Tues Jul 28 in person tasting

  • Thurs Jul 30 webinar: Lazio, Molise, Campania

  • Tues Aug 4 webinar: Puglia, Calabria, Basilicata

  • Thurs Aug 6 webinar: Sicilia, Sardegna

  • Tues Aug 11 in person tasting

  • Tues Aug 18 in person exam

Cost: $850

Webinars will be scheduled for 6pm-8pm, but will also be recorded and made available after class. That gives you the opportunity to re-watch or just watch at another time if you have a schedule conflict.

For the tastings and exam, we will be splitting the class in to two halves to make physical distancing easier in the classroom. For the tastings, group 1 will be scheduled for 4pm-6pm and group 2 will be 6:30pm-8:30pm. Extra cleanliness measures will be taken in the classroom, and the instructor will be the only person pouring, so we can limit contact. Everyone will be expected to wash or sanitize their hands as they enter and leave the room, and you will be responsible for cleaning up your own glassware and spit cups. The classroom will be cleaned thoroughly between groups. For the exam, group 1 will be scheduled for 6pm-7pm and group 2 for 7:30pm-8:30pm. More details on who will be in each group to come closer to our start date.

We will be using Zoom for the webinars, so make sure you get an account if you don’t already have one. You can get a (free! No need to pay any fees) account here. We will send out the link for each class a day in advance. When you log on to the call, please make sure to keep your microphone muted. If you have a question, just raise your hand and un-mute when called on – basically the same as how we do it in person. If your device does not have a microphone, there is a chat box and Q&A feature so you’ll still be able to type in questions. If your device doesn’t have a webcam, that’s ok! While we miss seeing all your happy faces, there’s certainly no video requirement for these webinars.
